A mere 73 degrees here right now but it has rained twice a day for a month so you could drown in the humidity. Still nicer

We usually get at least one week in the 102-104 range. It’ s not so bad so long as you don’t have to be out in it all day. The nice thing is of course that being a desert its dry and it cools down at night.

I’d go there even if I had to quarantine for two weeks. I took my son to the doctor yesterday, and I had to fill out a covid form. One question was, “Have you recently been to a region where there is a covid outbreak?” I live in TX, so yeah.

The problem now is that this sort of heat, which is normal for August, is coming earlier and lasting longer.

June was really hot in F in la nd. Several temperature record s were made. But the same cannot be said about July. It has been quite cold and there has been a lot of rain (which is actually very normal) .

I wondered at the time how sincere he was about the Lord Marshall’s offer. I suspect Purifier was, but the Lord Marshall wasn’t .

07/09/2020 at 10:25 | 1 |
Well, he was a Furyan, which is why he hoped Riddick would ignore his warning and go kill the Lord Marshall.
I really like that movie, and will watch it every time it shows up on TV. I know the diehard Riddick fans don’t like it, but I prefer it to the other two, which are just horror movies a la Alien. The look of the film is fantastic.

Yup. Only real rough spot is the sequence after Riddick escapes the Quasi-Dead and is captured by Toombs. The CGI background and Necro ship look like the were from a half-finished budget video game.

I’ll have to go back and look. That scene never really bothered me, but maybe I just wasn’t paying attention. I’ve also never watched all of Pitch Black, so I’m not really sure about Riddick’s relationship with the Imam. I just know they were together in that film.

You called it earlier, Pitch Black is very much Alien to Chronicle’ s Aliens. I’d say Riddick, strangely enough, is closer to Alien4 than 3, but YMMV.

The Chronicles of Riddick. It’s the middle movie in a Vin Diesel trilogy where the first and third are basically horror movies, but the middle one is about defeating an evil half-dead army bent on universe domination.
It sounds corny as hell (and is at some parts) but it has a solid cast and is actually a pretty good watch. Has Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Thandie Newton, Colm Feore and Judy Dench among many others. It’s an enjoyable watch for a movie from the mid-00s.

I’m 33 and we’ve been in a “ drought” for twenty seven or so years. They’re starting to think the first half of the twentieth century was just a very wet period for the Sonoran Desert.

The airport is the worst because you walk out into the covered parking garage, which becomes an oven by mid June.

Yeah, there’s a tiny bit of background you’ll miss if you don’t watch the first one (pitch black ) but basically all you need to know is that Vin Diesels character has a history with saving people from monsters on a planet without light and also is regularly hunted by bounty hunters (called merc’s in this universe).
I haven’t watched Dune in probably 10 years, I did watch Soylent Green again recently and it held up better than I expected in my mind .
